Charity begins with Shirdi Sai Baba. He gave Nine Coins to Laxmibai Shinde as He knew that He will be passing away soon. First five than four Coins. These Nine Coins are termed as the nine ways and means of worshipping Lord Vishnu. These are nine types of devotion. Also, these nine paths are best for obtaining and receiving blessings from the Lord. Ancestors of Laxmibai now worship these coins at their home in Shirdi.
As charity begins so also the devotion towards Shri Sai Baba. Sai devotee Butisaheb of Nagpur had built this present Sai temple where the mortal body of Shri Sai Baba is taking rest. Later management of this temple was handed over to Sansthan Trust. Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust now manages Shirdi Sai Temple.
Shirdi Sai temple is now one among few richest temple in India. Years ago, the charity begins with Shri Sai Baba now helping many in getting a safe environment in Shirdi. Sai devotees coming for pilgrimage journey to Shirdi are now getting the cheapest accommodation and food. The road infrastructure and cleanliness are better now.
As per an article published in The Times of India, Shirdi Sai, and Siddhivinayak are two richest temples in the state of Maharashtra. Both these temples participated in charity towards mankind.
Their expenditure on charity is around 50% of the earnings. The sources of these earnings mainly through the cash & jewelry donations from devotees. These huge funds lie idle with the banks. Politicians of different parties fight each other to gain control over the management of these temples.
Among the projects, though approved by the government could not be carried out till date due to non-availability of other facilities. The Shirdi Airport idea was a super flop. Constructing better roadways must be there before implementing and spending such huge funds for Shirdi Airport. There is a mismatch in tax laws between State and Income Tax Department.
