It is a well-known fact that Shri Sai Baba took Dakshina that is the donation from devotees. Sai Baba gets in exchange for fuel to put live the sacred fire (Dhuni) at Dwarkamai. Everyone must have seen this sacred fire at Dwarkamai. This is one of the miracles that the Fire is ever burning from those days.
The Udi so-called Vibhuti is the ashes from this sacred fire. Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust latches onto this Udi and measures out to devotees.
This Udi is one of the main attractions of all Sai devotees coming to visit Shirdi. Sai Baba used to give this Udi when anyone is leaving Shirdi for his home. Devotees use this Udi any type of disease and black magic. This curing power and medicinal property of UDI made many miracles happened in the past.
There are innumerable instances when miracles happened in Shirdi after uses of Udi. Even now also devotees besmeared it on their forehead after a bath. Taking this with a glass of clean water can do away with all physical and mental sufferings.
The Scorpion-sting, Jamner miracles, Appasaheb Kulkarni, Haribhau Karnik, Shama`s Sister-in-law, in all these cases the power of Udi had been already proved.
In all above cases, miracles of Shri Sai Baba happened, which makes us believe that Shri Sai is God and Almighty. Who makes our material life better than others. He who will have faith on His lotus feet will overcome all the sufferings. Shri Sai Baba will take the burden of these devotees on His shoulder.
Now-a-days any devotee, after having Darshan at Samadhi Mandir , while coming out by passing through Gurusthan will find at the end point an Udi packet with a Bundi Prasad packet being distributed like Sai Baba`s gift. The practice is still going on as like Sai Baba distributing Udi during those period at Dwarkamai . This greatness of Udi is due to the spiritual grandeur of Shri Sai Baba & belief. Along these lines miracles did happen in applying of Udi.
What did Baba teach us by this Udi ?
That all the visible phenomena in this universe are ephemeral. These will transit into ashes. Our bodies composed of five matter of elements, will fall down, after all their enjoyments are over. These will be reduced to ashes. Delivery of Udi remind us this universal truth.
The Udi taught us this discrimination & donation (Dakshina) taught us non-attachment. Non attachment with worldly objects & it`s attractiveness.
I have the pleasure of writing my first blog on Sai Baba. Who had done so many miracles during His Saint Avatar as Sai in Shirdi? The remote village in the state of Maharashtra of India. This grinding story of wheat by Sai Baba being the beginning of this journey in finding Faith (Shraddha) and having Patience (Saburi).
Lord Krishna in Bhagwad Gita, IX-26, says “ Whosoever offers to Me something, with love or devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, that offering of love of the pure and self- controlled man is willingly and readily accepted by Me”
Once Kabir in a weeping state asked his Guru (Nipatniranjan). “ I am weeping Guruji as because I feel like the agony of being crushed under the wheel of worldly existence”. This feeling was deeply expressed by Saint Kabir on watching a woman grinding corn by a hand-mill.
To this what his Guru Nipatniranjan replied :
“This grinding of Corn will give you the most desired lesson for your future life”. “ Do not be afraid, hold fast to the handle of knowledge of this mill, as I do. And do not wander far away from the same, but turn inward to the center, and you are sure to be saved”.
Now, this can be more explained in such a manner, the handle being mentioned here is Dhyan-the consistency in devotion to Lord-The God. Being steady in leading a life fully devoted to almighty. Both stones of the mill are termed as Karma being lower & Bhakti being upper or Shraddha & Saburi. Lastly the corn or wheat is here are our worries, sins, sufferings, pleasure & pain. Grinding here means the life; birth and death.
Self-realization of our life is not possible unless we are not grinding our impulses, desires, sins with the help of our Karma & Bhakti by holding firmly our knowledge that is Dhyan.
The Philosophical Significance behind this grinding of wheat scene is as follows:-
We all have three qualities called Sattva, Rajas & Tamas; so let these being crushed by our Karma & Bhakti. Than whatever outcome or the result will emerge from such grinding will be most useful to our society and life.
The same thing being remembered by Hemadpant when he saw Shri Sai Baba grinding wheat in Masjid with the help of a hand-mill. Sai Baba has no family, neither He is leading any family life. He possesses nothing and also stored nothing for self or for others, rather He lived on alms. But all the universe is His family. All the creatures of this universe depend upon Him. He took the pain in grinding the sins, sufferings of devotees by concentrating His Dhyan on Supreme Lord. He made an end to the miseries of His devotees by grinding their sins & sufferings by this hand-mill.
This way in order to get self-realization of oneself, grinding of all of our impulses, desires, sins, and of above mentioned three qualities (Gunas) & also our grid is most.
